We offer an affordable muscle book that makes the study of anatomy
easy to teach… and easy to learn.
Megabooks, Inc. is a small publishing company in Gainesville, Florida, founded in 1984 by owners Kay F. Walker (Kay W. Sieg) and Sandra P. Adams. We adhere to three guiding principles: Essentials first, affordable pricing and service to others.
Essentials first
For our "muscle book" we selected core content and developed clean illustrations to adhere to the principle of "essentials first" to teach, learn, and review musculoskeletal basics. As teachers, it's our job to direct students toward what they must know about musculoskeletal anatomy to function in fields where this knowledge is an essential for practice.
Affordable pricing
We want students and teachers to be able to afford this text in addition to the other books they need. Not intended to replace comprehensive narrative texts on musculoskeletal anatomy, we have kept the Illustrated Essentials of Musculoskeletal Anatomy book, study cards and transparency set modestly priced to be compatible with the budgets of students, schools and practitioners.
Service to others
We provide service to others by developing texts and materials that contribute to good health and good health care practices. Our goal is to make it easier for teachers to impart information, students to learn it, and practitioners to use it. We hope our endeavors, in some small way, make the world a better place.
How we began
The origin of our book dates to when we taught university courses in human musculoskeletal anatomy and cadaver lab. To help us teach and our students to learn, we developed extensive handouts on the muscles, bones, and nerves and eventually added drawings. Thinking that other teachers might find the handouts useful, we decided to publish the book but were discouraged by large publishing houses. We formed our own company, Megabooks, Inc., in 1984 and published the fourth edition of the book in 2002. In each edition we have endeavored to update, refine, and expand the text and illustrations, while keeping the book a clearly illustrated presentation of the essential information for students of musculoskeletal anatomy. As of 2006, students, teachers and practioners have purchased more than 400,000 copies of the Illustrated Essentials of Musculoskeletal Anatomy.
